A Short History of Ashton VSG Cigars

When the Ashton Virgin Sun Grown cigar was unveiled in the winter of 1999, all involved with its production figured it would be a solid addition to Ashton’s product line. However it unexpectedly became the most successful introduction of any cigar for the Ashton brand up until that point, with every cigar achieving at least a 9 rating from Cigar Aficionado. From there, President of Arturo Fuente companies Carlos Fuente Jr. worked tirelessly to make a premium cigar unlike any Ashton had previously produced. Two years later that goal was achieved, with the VSG receiving a 93 rating with Cigar Aficionado.

The Ashton brand has never looked back from its early boom of success, and as a result the Virgin Sun Grown cigar has come to be one of the most in demand and widely recognized cigar lines on the market, and a go to product for cigar lovers.    

With a hearty and full flavor tied together with a caramel sweetness that creates a top notch balance, the VSG is considered to be a gem. The distinctive feature that sets the VSG apart is its dark Sumatra-seed wrapper, grown in ideal conditions in the Ecuadorian foothills of the Andes mountains. The fillings are taken from the tobacco plant’s highest primings and blended with the legendary Sumatra seed wrapping to foster a smooth, hearty, robust flavor.
