After World War II, denim enthusiast Mr. Tsunemi took a massive gamble by launching a denim company in Japan. The material was generally associated with all things American, and there was still a lingering sense of animosity between the two nations. Nonetheless, Mr. Tsunemi had long admired denim for its strength and durability. He also recognized the emergence of a new generation eager to embrace a more modern, international look.
In 1947, the Edwin brand was among the first denim pioneers to interpret post-WWII Americana through a Japanese lens and become the first global denim brand from Japan. Today, Edwin continues to set the standard in Japanese denim
production. We pride ourselves on the use of exclusive fabrics, revolutionary production technologies, and state-of-the-art finishing, while keeping design and fit as our top priorities.

Rainbow Selvages are essential elements when discussing EDWIN Jeans and their history. They were first introduced in 1963 with the 359BF model, thus contributing to EDWIN’s craftsmanship ethos, where perfect jeans
are born from fabric quality and fit. Until the early 1960s, these selvages were an effective solution to prevent loose threads at the edges of denim woven with shuttle looms. EDWIN then developed its own sturdy denim in collaboration
with a spinning company, incorporating unique selvages adorned with orange and green threads along the fabric edges. This marked the
beginning of domestic denim and Japanese jeans, which, decades later, would be recognized as "Japanese denim" for their quality and the
dedication of their makers. While red selvages were commonly used, the orange and green combination introduced by EDWIN quickly
became known as Rainbow Selvages, continuing to captivate denim enthusiasts worldwide as an iconic feature of EDWIN’s vintage product line.
